An elegant Pinot Noir driven by a dynamic acidity and defined structure with lifted notes of summer berries.

STYLE

An elegant Pinot Noir driven by a dynamic acidity and defined structure. Garnet in the glass, with lifted notes of summer berries and gamey notes of crushed herbs, pepper spice and cured meats. The palate displays earthy forest floor characters that add a grounding depth to the wine, backed by gravelly tannins. A Pinot Noir that showcases the influence of cool sites during a warmer season and drier harvest conditions—restrained yet brimming with complexity.

VINEYARD

The 2024 Pinot Noir was sourced from the cooler areas of Echunga and Hope Forest in the southern parts of the Adelaide Hills. A wet December and January led into a dry February and March, allowing the vines to catch up on lost time. The subdued temperatures in these sub-regions slow the grapes ripening, slowly achieve optimal flavours and increased complexity through hanging on vine for a littler longer. 100% D5V12 clone from own rooted vines.

WINEMAKING

Harvested in the coolest part of the morning, the grapes were hand sorted before being 90% destemmed into open fermenters. The fermentation was gently plunged or pumped over as required—twice daily as a maximum—and pressed off skins after about 10 days when the desired tannin and structure was reached. Gently pressed and aged in hogsheads with 5% new french oak for 6 months, before being blended and aged for another few months in large foudre.
